These people are seated here, underlit by an electric orb on the brocade table cloth, lit from above by cool colored chandeliers. They have champagne glasses and a bottle in the middle of the table, but don't seem very thirsty.

Chloë has folded her hands awkwardly, while Wilhelm points out various people in the crowd, and whispers to her.

"Good evening, Stranger." She pulled out a chair and sat, legs crossed, with her hands clasped delicately in her lap.
"Sister to sister, this game is more difficult than waiting tables. At least at work I know how to earn a tip ... champagne, anyone?" She picked up the bottle and poured herself a glass.
"How did you two meet, again?"

Wilhelm- "I wonder if I should leave you two to talk...?"
Chloë- "No, no it's okay..." She steepled her fingers and played with chipped fingernail polish.
Chloë- "Well, basically, we met at the film premiere..."
Wilhelm- "Word is around town about 'zis film, I must see it. I am so glad to meet her."
Chloë- "Uh huh. Anyway..."
Chloë- "Oh Babette, I... I can almost see you...!" She waved her hands in front of Babette like she was brushing away invisible cobwebs. Wilhelm gently caught her wrist and leaned her back. Wilhelm- "Haha, oh Chloë, you shouldn't haff too much to drink...!"
Chloë- "Huh?"

" Mmm. Could be a migraine. Tsk. He demands too much." She did not clarify whether "he" was August or Wilhelm."Oh, well. Let's discuss something fun. Go has been growing on me. At first I wondered: why bananas? It's symbolic, though. Right? Heheh. Poor man. How do you guys feel about avant-garde stuff?" Casually, Babette eyed the room. What a strange assortment of eccentrics. They were intimidating.

Chloë- "I always thought the bananas were.. um... you know, wieners. I mean, I don't know, maybe August's like that. The hair and everything..."
Wilhelm- "I'm not sure of 'zeh 'avant-garde'. This meaning 'hass changed over time. In the past it was stark visions of bleak times, today it seems to be a masquerade for the dalliances of the pampered youth. Perhaps I am too old for it now."
Chloë- "Aren't they kind of just making it up as they go? I mean, that's what I would do..."

Wilhelm- "No trouble dear, it's iss always a delight to talk to the young and beautiful."
Chloë- "Yeah, Babette... everything's going to work out for you! I know it. *sniff*"

"Here, darling." She offered her a fresh hanky for the sniffle. It was white lace. So elegant! Chloë was definitely mourning something ... a grandparent? A pet? "Well. I should make the rounds." Babette stood and left, if not a bit reluctantly.

Wilhelm- "Absolutely. Haff a good evening."
Chloë- "..." This table is open. Eli- "Hey guys. Nice to see you again. Chloë, you feeling okay?"

(ORIGINALLY...) Eli strode over to the table, trying to hide his apprehension. He was feeling better about what had happened over dinner, but the thought of speaking to Chloe alone was still a little nerve-racking.
Wilhelm- "Delightful, young man. At last I haff an opportunity to meet everyone as an individual."
Chloë- "...I'm OK, um, ... Eli."
Eli- "Well, great! Um, so... Hey I was wondering, Wilhelm, where you from? Grauish?" (ORIGINALLY...) ((Eli asked where Wilhelm is from.))

Eli- "Yeah, not since I was a kid though. I just kept whining about being too hot and that's all I remember. How about you two? I mean-- have you traveled?"
Chloë- "I went with my parents to Bribeaux last year. It was pretty nice but it smelled weird. And I went with some girls to Bonnern for a weekend but I got food poisoning." Wilhelm- "Ahah, yes. Well, I go back to the home country every so often. I've visited most of the continent but it's been-- years." (ORIGINALLY...)
Wilhelm- "I haff only ever known zeh city. In that sense, Grauland is not zo dissimilar from Harlan. Many people come together to understand what it iss to be alive. Arts, liberation, and so on. I used to vacation in Kastan. Haff you ever lived there?"
Chloë was clearly checking out, mentally. But it seemed doubtful she was the one to impress here. "I've been on extended trips, but nothing too long. A few months at a time, on summer vacation. I love the climate so much better down there. And the water was so warm...not like over here. I spent so much time swimming, it's a miracle I didn't get eaten by sharks.
"It's a good place to be, though. The people are so relaxed compared to Glenland."
"Speaking of which, how do you find Glenland?"
'Huh. He's not half bad. Guess my intuition was wrong,' Eli noted. 'Never judge a book by its cover, I suppose.'

Eli- "Well it's nice that you've settled here. What do you think of it?"
Wilhelm- "Glenland is good. I understand from papers that the rural areass are not zo understanding, but zeh city is brilliant. Harlan has deserved its reputation as cultural center of zeh world. Do you feel it is so? What would you do to take advantage of 'zis place in culture and history?"
The game again took a turn for the job interviewish. Is it better to lead or follow in the quest for these flowers? And how would one lead?(ORIGINALLY...)Eli was getting sick of the twenty questions. At least this one wasn't so invasive, which was good. He wondered how he'd survived the last one. Probably because of Francesca's disarming personality and Demetri's being pretty damn cute.
Nonetheless, Eli would keep pace. He wasn't sure how to turn the tables, but he would think about that later.
"Well, yes and no. Don't get me wrong, Harlan is a great place, but it has its problems. As far as the art scene here, I feel like it's kinda stale. I mean, reading about the old days...Harlan was booming. I feel like we need to do something to revitalize Harlan, breathe in new life, so to speak. It's not that Harlan is bad, per se, just that we can do better."
"You bring up a good point about the rest of Glenland, though. I've lived in Harlan all my life and I've seen people from all over Glenland. That ignorance seeps into Harlan. And it won't change unless the rest of Glenland changes."
"As far as what I'd do? In truth, I already do take advantage of living in Harlan, all the time. I've had a chance to meet people from all walks of life, collaborate with different artists, and attend all kinds of events that others can't. Even being here now? I would never have had an opportunity to do this if I lived out in the sticks."

Eli- "Ah well, I hate to admit it... but I'm not too involved in the local art scene. Maybe it's just the novelty, but I like talking to people around the world online. Always seems like somewhere else is more interesting."
Wilhelm- "Oh? What a shame... well, who knows where it could lead you. What vass your art form again?"
Eli- "Digital painting, for the most part. I tried traditional..."
Eli- "Chloë, you were in print and drawing right? I'm too uncoordinated to deal with those toxic chemicals, haha." Chloë- "Oh me either. They always said you should wear gloves but it's hard to remember. I guess it's good I don't have to worry about getting Wilhelm- sick from it anymore." "Ah, because she can receive 'zeh best healthcare now!" Chloë- "Huh?" (ORIGINALLY...)
Wilhelm- "So true, so true... Still, zeh arts of painting and drawing... How do you 'revitalize' these subjects? I haff seen people suggest a return to traditional methods, and zis would hardly constitute a ... way to 'revitalize'. What would you do? And do you think there may be a better medium in which to achieve this?"
'At least this is a subject I care about.' Indeed, Eli had been talking about Harlan's art scene for a long time. It was a big reason why he wanted to become a professor - he wanted to do what he could to give people a love for the arts. He spoke in an animated fashion, his zeal for the topic was obvious. "I don't necessarily think we have to return to traditional media. We shouldn't abandon it, of course, but the real thing we need to return to is the way they thought about art back then."
"The media people use doesn't matter, art is art. But giving people a sense of appreciation and interest in the arts? That's how you foster creativity. The more people who care, the more new artists and new people willing to support these artists there are."
"How do you do that? A lot of people have different ways of trying to solve the problem. Take August, for example." He gestured towards August. "He wants to foster an art scene in Antearctos by becoming a famous filmmaker. He wants to act as a cultural ambassador, I guess you could say."
"Me? I plan to make a difference through education, by becoming a professor. I'm not sure there's a 'best' way to do it."
"I imagine lobbying would probably make a good dent, but that sort of thing wouldn't have much of an affect of the people didn't already support it. Either way, it's gonna take time and a lot of effort from many people."
Eli couldn't tell if it was the wine or his passion making him talk so much. Perhaps it was both.
"What do you guys think? I've heard a lot of differing opinions on the subject. I'd love to hear yours."
