Ashley- "...I don't like wasting any time, but I have no experience with hotwiring boats, and I don't know if it works the same as cars. Maybe we could check inside that office but I feel like boat owners would have their own keys and who knows where they are." He glanced at Davin and seemed uncomfortable. Maybe this was a bad idea. He hadn't thought of the possibility of not having keys available. "I'll do whatever you decide. I don't have a good solution."

Davin- "probably easier ... to do a boat... less need for... theft prev..." Well, who could say until you tried? If there were keys in the building, they might be in a safe. It's not like the hotwire has to preserve resale value, so you could just smash a hole in the fiberglass and get right to the wires...

"An ignition's an ignition's an ignition. I'm no electrical engineer, but it can't be that different." Patti selected a midsize fishing boat that was moored near the end of the pier."This looks good and we don't have to try to maneuver around the others."

"Think of it as an oversized lawnmower. Man, I really fucking wished I'd paid more attention on the ship to this stuff. I was err distracted." Micah tried to look useful as he could. He was pretty pleased with being the ideas man for once. He wasn't just that guy that chunders all the time dammit!

Getting onto the boat required walking over a plank, or just hopping from the dock. ((Patti problem?)) Davin could be boarded by having two people on and one on the dock passing him over the edge. Once on board, it was time to figure out how to hotwire and how to drive...
While these things were underway, people had a chance to keep talking - working out plans or just processing WTF had happened. Davin took advantage of the moment to stay quiet and relax.

Ashley- Ashley would help move Davin onto the ship in the meantime, and allows Patti to attempt to hotwire it if she wished. If it didn't work they could always try looking for a key, or moving Davin. He wasn't sure if this was the fastest way but it would jog Davin the least and exhaust them the least.
He adjusted Davin's fuzzies to keep him warm, and covered the top of his head to help retain heat. He was like... a giant bundled infant.... A grumpy giant bundled infant.
Ashley smiled. "It's going to be ok." Ashley refrained from saying anything else, and let the others go about what they wanted to do right now.

Patti hesitated only momentarily at the plank, then ran across quickly. She helped get Davin onto the boat and then went directly into the cabin without a word. The first person in found her digging through cabinets instead of monkeying with the ignition.
After a few seconds of rummaging, she produced a life vest and put it on. She looked mildly relieved as she went to the control area. She used her hammer claw to pry off the panel and she started pulling wires. As she suspected, there wasn't a lot of effort put into making boats hotwire-proof and she had the had the engine cranking in a few seconds. It was reluctant to start, but once the glow plugs had warmed up it turned over.
A thick black cloud spit out of the exhaust as the engine rumbled to life. Patti stuck her head out to speak with the others."Keep a close watch for dark ghosts. I saw two marine flares in the cabin, there might be more if we look close. I've only got one road flare left. Anyone else have spares?"

Ashley- "I have one more. Davin has a light source too, if you can find his stuff, it won't burn up ghosts though."

Micah worked on releasing the moorings of the ship because something told him that was important and not something to forget. It took him a lot of awkwardness and guessing but he managed to get the rope untied in time. It was kinda fun if you ignored the dark ghost filled waters. He rubbed his tattoo again.

This was it. The trip home. The triumph of good over evil at an as yet unspecified cost. The silver and black clouds hung still far above, intermittently obscured by infinite columns of white snowflakes. Seattle sat dead at either side of them as the slid over the water, snow blanketing everything, signs of the settled havoc anywhere an observant person cared to look.
As they neared the Fremont and Aurora bridges, they knew they'd be seeing dark ghosts from above as well, but the boat was fairly swift, so they had good odds of slipping by unscathed. Meanwhile, they were tense and ready for action. ((Does anyone want to try to puzzle out what to write up in the monster book about wendigos? It's the main thing that's left to resolve in this adventure... In particular, what were the limitations of its regeneration, if any? Are they confident he didn't pop out of the flames some time after they left? Willing to lay odds on anything? Why did he not move after Patti's hammer blow, when he was quite swift in recovering from the bullets?))

Patti paced inside the cabin in silence unless engaged in conversation. One might have thought she was worried about ghosts, except she didn't seem very intent on looking out for them. Every thirty seconds or so she would check all of the buckles and straps on her life vest.

And with that, the heroes returned home...
Davin quickly recovered normal mobility after a few days, but had to avoid strenuous activity for a long time after that. People put their heads together and figured the following: They'd only seen evidence he'd eaten six people, and he survived six potentially lethal wounds before that seemed to stop. Therefore, the tentative rule for wendigos was to keep killing them until they stop moving, and burn to be sure.
That, and they really hoped the burning had worked. After seeing him shrug off bullets passing through his head, it was far too easy to imagine him walking out of that fire and into the peaceful snowy day...
THE END.
