So, the evening and dinner was uneventful, and the day fades into purple red sky, which then fades into a deep blue like the sea. The goats all gather inside their shelter with a few quiet MEeeeehhs. Faith the puppy wanders inside the shelter as well.
Rob, Breg and Emiliano are in the same room after the evening's events. Sylvia stays with the other three nuns. Since Molly has killed a demon-dead and an unknown monster entirely on her own, she probably doesn't need much protection, so she remains in Wolf's room.Jacob and Christa would have been encouraged to join Molly and Wolf for the time being, and the two teenagers are being housed with the nuns.
Sylvia would have jokingly offered Molly to stay with her in her room. Molly would rather have a finger through the heart than party down with a bunch of nuns and teenagers. So she sadly declines the joking joke.
This leaves Emiliano, Rob and Breg in the same small room. Breg sleeps on the floor, still wearing his clothes, curled up on a sleeping bag.
Several hours into the night, they hear noises again.
Although their defenses were implausibly impeccable, deep in the night, they hear a strange scratching a few houses down, and then a very long silence. It was not enough to wake most of the members of the household, unless they slept with their windows open. Twenty minutes later, the otherwise quiet night is disturbed by the sound of wooden objects being hurled against walls, ceilings, and floors.
Breg is sleep deprived, and does not wake up for the ruckus.
Molly, Marcos, and Rob hear the sound of thrown furniture from several houses down. It persists for about five minutes. What follows is a long and sinister silence.
Rob- Rob awoke looking wildly around and moved to the window to see if he could find the source. He wasn't used to sleeping in such a fortified place, at least it wasn't their home. He just hoped it wasn't anyone else's.
Breg- Breg murmurs quietly in his sleep, and rolls over on the floor. He seems uneasy in his sleep, but that doesn't seem to make him wake any faster.
Marcos- Marcos dove off the bed and smacked Breg on the arm to wake him, then crawled army-style to the window.
Breg- Breg woofs in surprise, and wakes up with a start, reaching for his ax, which was currently stored under the bed. He looked strange and wild with his hair out of its ponytail. "...What..?"
Marcos- He peeked out the window, then ducked down skittishly. "Listen."
Rob- "Some kind of ruckus a couple doors down." Rob was still searching for something outside the window "Not the good kind."
The silence was overwhelming...There was nothing to listen to but an oddly quiet night. No dogs barked or howled, no drunk men shouted in the distance, no wild midnight parties or driving marauders came screaming down the road. It was, distinctly, oddly, and suspiciously silence.
Marcos- "I think she is close."
Breg- Breg nods thoughtfully. "I believe that you heard it. Maybe I should wake everyone, just in case it is coming... They are already ready, should the moment come." He seemed tense, before getting up blearily and walking to the door. He was back in two minutes, and then sat by the window again, watching out of it. "How do you know it is her?"
Rob-"Can you sense her? Some kid of weird connection?" He gives Marcos an odd look.
There was no promise it wasn't Marcos' paranoia speaking.
Marcos- "Who else could it be? I should go outside and draw her away. You've been good to me. Thank you for the virgin clotheses."He is ready to sacrifice himself, with a heroic TEAR in his eye.
Rob- "Plenty of things go bump in the night, don't be a fool."
Breg- Breg sighs. "It's true, we should still be prepared. Marcos, you are not going anywhere. Even if we gave you back to her, with the state you were in, I'm not sure if you would survive. What is more, that creature needs to kill to survive. We should not suffer her to live. It's our moral obligation to kill her to prevent more people from dying." "I've done my best to protect every room from Her, I hope she cannot enter at all, but if she can, then I'm willing to fight her, right here and now."
Rob- "Last time it was one against one, we're tougher. We can't have her eating more hearts. I'm with you Breg."
Molly- MOLLY APPEARED in a flash of smoke. Just kidding. She peeked into the room and said, "Everyone gather in the basement! Emergency meeting! Did you hear that ruckus?!"
The silence seemed to go on forever, and then there was a THUMP on the roof.By roof, it is the roof of the first floor, the same floor as their window.
Rob- "Also with we have her, demon killer."
Breg- Breg shakes his head. "...No...You all go downstairs, we are going to kill this thing, Molly, if it is trying to get us." Rob- Rob grabbed his pole from close to his bed and looked to Breg for instruction.
Molly- Molly said, with great distress, "If it's a demon, I'll consider myself lucky. Gaaawd." She ran to alert the others.
Marcos- Marcos searched for a weapon!
Breg- Breg stares out the window. It's quiet and dark. "...Stay where you are. Don't open the window. If it wants us, it will come inside."
Marcos- Marcos finds a short length of pipe that was hidden under the bed in case of invasion. It's heavy lead but not the most effective weapon that could have been hidden in the room.
As they sit and stare, waiting, the three within notice a green eyeshine near the edge of the roof's surface, outside their window. Like an oversized cat with lamp-like eyes, it stares back at them.
Marcos- Marcos would be crouched against the wall, on the window-side of the room, trying to hide from view.
Rob- "We won't let it get you. I think if it could, it'd already be inside. It's a standstill, what do we do?" "How do we get to it without it getting in?"
At that moment, the creature appears to disappear completely. There is no more eyeshine from their lamps or the moonlight. Only darkness on the roof beyond. There is another moment of silence.
Breg stares at the place it had been. "Is it gone? Did it jump?"
"It vanishes sometimes." He held the pipe with white knuckles.
Marcos ducks, the others stand like statues.
The glass suddenly shatters inwards, sending small, sharp projectiles flying inside the room, shooting into unprotected skin. Breg and Rob are both mildly affected by the small pieces of glass. Rob would not find it terribly painful at first, though some parts of his hands and face would feel oddly warm.
Breg- Breg puts up a hand to try to protect his face. "UG!" He cringes, more in response to the noise and the possibility of harm than the shards themselves.
Rob- Rob had a similiar reaction, worrying about his face mostly. Then remembered it didn't matter.
When they open their eyes, a dark shape stands in the center of the room, more pear-shaped than the first, with ratty, tangled hair curling about her shoulders like the snakes on a Medusa. She wears a shredded dress with small heels, her deep black, white-less eyes stare back at them with neither fear nor concern. She searched, making soft sniffing soundsin the dark, her pale, rotten-mushroom skin appearing fairer by this dim light, her unkept nails forming delicate points. "...Lover.. Where are you? I miss you...Where are you? Come out..." Her voice sounded like someone with the most terrible of strep throats, after drinking salt water. It was almost painful to listen to. "...Where..." Her head rolled from side to side like a doll's as she searched. She looked at the other two with disinterest.
Rob- Rob manages to hit her on the back of the head with his pipe, she may be distracted, but she has excellent aim. She picks him up off the ground slowly. He begins to lift into the air as if held on invisible strings, unnaturally, uncomfortably. She turns her head to watch him, black eyes trained on his body. "Sss....snakes...traitors...." She hurls Rob into the door with a gesture of her hand. He hits hard enough to crack the wood of the flimsy thing, and probably hard enough to knock the wind out of him. Blood oozes from her hairline where he struck her. A discerning eye would find the outline of her skull uneven where she was so harmed.
She then turns her attentions to Breg, if only for a moment. The true object of her interest, was, and always had been, Marcos. "...Hungrryyy."
Marcos- "Leave them alone! Robert, run! Get out of here!"
Rob- Rob lets out a heavy croaking sigh, trying to bring air back into his lungs. He'll try to get up when he can.
Marcos- Marcos tried not to gag at the monster's scent, which was RANK, and dove at her legs. It was apparently supposed to be a tackle.
Breg- Breg strikes at her arm, but she dodges as nimbly as a dancer might, and turns around quickly as a dog might wheel, before striking at Breg's chest with fingers outstretched like a martial artist might, scooping inwards at him. She misses, but tears into Breg's side, and rips some of the flesh off his ribs, sheering off a piece of cloth in the process. Breg makes a pained sound that didn't sound quite as manly as he hoped it would, and cringed, stumbling backwards, holding the wound with his free hand. It bleed profusely for a flap of skin.
Creature- She stares down at Marcos. "...Why? Whyy? Why fight? I love you forevers. We will be forevers, yes? Where child? You come home now. We happy."
Rob- Rob got staggeringly to his feet and will try had take another blow at the creature with a worried glance at Breg. He wished Molly was here.
Creature- The creature is currently distracted, staring down at Marcos as it speaks, the dull, sticky locks of hair knotting about her face as she kneels to try to close the space between them. "Why go?" As she kneels, Rob gives her a glancing blow to the back of her shoulder, which seems to more annoy her than harm her.
Anya- A shadowy figure appeared in the doorway. Could it be Molly, the answer to Rob's prayers? NAY! Even better! It's Anya, beyyatches! She'd been recovering from a cold for a couple days. But no virus could keep her away from being badass!
Breg- Breg decides not to concern himself with the consequences, and chokes up on his ax, before attacking the creature head on. He roots himself like a tree with his stance, before hacking at her head. Though Breg misses his target, he severs an arm from the monster, which flops on top of poor Marcos, writhing and wriggling.
Creature- This seems to finally distract her away from Marcos. She draws herself to her full height, her eyes gleam and she hisses. The game had changed, and perhaps they were the ones to lose this time. "...YOU. YOU TAKE HIM FROM ME NEVERRR YOU DIE!" Her teeth were human-shaped, though darkened from the black blood that adhered to her hair and face, fingers and arms.
Marcos- Marcos kicked the arm away, and Anya scooped it from the ground and launched herself at the monster, swinging its arm like a bat. She smacks that beast across the face. It's a resounding SLAP. Flecks of black coffee grounds spit fly across the room, and she staggers, even with her other leg being held by Marcos.
Rob- Rob went in for another blow, hoping not to just annoy the beast and wished he'd thought of the arm.
Anya- Anya said, "Stop hitting yourself!"
Rob- At the same moment, it attempted to strike the rushing Rob, fingers held straight as before towards his chest, but at the last moment, he turned, and sliced it right off.
Breg- Breg, feeling encouraged, went to swing a second blow at the creature, this time attempting to sever her head from her shoulders with a single, mighty blow.
Creature- However, the creature, confounding all of their intents, appears to disappear from the spot. Breg swings through and through, at air.
Marcos- Marcos shouted, "Watch out! She can reappear anywhere!"
Rob- "I'm thinking not far from you. She loves you forevers." He made a pretty good mimcry of her voice.
Marcos- Marcos makes this face :/
Breg- Breg looks around wildly, and then down at Marcos. "Where is she? What can she do?" He had hardly finished his sentence, when the bed from the room lifted off the ground, quivering, as if with the effort of a man lifting off the ground, before it came hurling straight for Breg and anyone near him at considerable speed, legs first.
Anya- Anya tried to dodge - Marcos was on the ground, so could not move quickly.
Breg- The bed whips across the room at what might be lethal speed had any of them been hit full force. It collides with Anya and clips her painfully, and a leg hooks Rob's clothing painfully and tears it, pushing him against the wall forcefully. The bed remains lodged in the wall. Breg manages to evade, and tries to push Anya to safety. Breg turns to Anya "...Anya.. What are you doing here? Go back to the basement, please..."
The desk begins to lift off the ground, trembling slowly and steadily, before lifting right off. The arms, they notice, have disappeared from sight, and from Anya's grip. It's almost like they evaporated.
Rob- Rob winced trying not to cry out in front of a girl who'd just beat a monster with her own arm. "A little help..."
Anya- Anya cringed with pain. "What, to be safe with the women and children?" She nodded at Rob and put on a stern face. "Help him. I'm fine."
Breg- "I'll help you." Breg went to help Rob unhook himself from the bed, and hopefully help him escape the desk that would soon try to finish both he and Breg off in one graceful blow. Breg manages to tear Rob off, just as the desk flies across the room, paper fluttering, to force the bed into the wall, probably permanently. It clatters to the floor, losing its free leg in the process, and showers all of them with papers, books, and pens, and a naughty magazine they had never seen before.
The three-legged desk bumps with finality, and then falls over, flat, its remaining legs in the air like a dead animal.
Breg- Breg holds Rob against his body, crouched away from the desk. Rob is now free to make his move, and was totally unharmed by the desk.
Marcos- Marcos decided to try something risky. He went to the window and leaned out. "I'll jump if you hurt them!" Distraction tactic!
Creature- The creature reappears in the center of the room, with both arms as intact as they had been when she entered, and her multiple head wounds now "healed" it seems. It gives Marcos sad, almost pleading eyes, and holds out its taloned hands to him, palms outwards. "...Come love..Please... Please, I care for you, you safe...I feed you hungry. Eat all the vegetables...You come. No fall, please...please... Come home" It turns away from them, temporarily distracted, the expanse of her flat, greyish back visible in her dress, the long lines of her legs. She was probably not a thin woman in life, now there was a sickly appearance of undeath to her contours. It turns away from them, temporarily distracted, the expanse of her flat, greyish back visible in her dress, the long lines of her legs. She was probably not a thin woman in life, now there was a sickly appearance of undeath to her contours.
Rob- Shit. This isn't good. This isn't good at all. EXCUSE ME, MAM?" Rob went for broke again, ignoring his various aches.
Marcos- Marcos said, "Listen to my ... brother, please."
Breg- Breg tries to swing at her, but misses, and is scratched across the arm with long, stinging cat-like claws.
Rob- Robert loses some skin as she strikes with her nails. It stings like a cat-scratch, but it doesn't seem to do much lasting damage, other than being disgusting and stinging a lot.
Marcos- Marcos isn't harmed, and She is unable to grab a hold of him to kidnap him this round, however. She misses and takes off a chunk of window sill instead.
Anya- Anya misses her claw swipe, but also is unable to hit her. She evades nimbly and disappears again. The night is quiet.
Breg- Breg pants, and tries to put a hand on all his wounds. They were small, but they were certainly adding up, especially the early rib scratch. Could they even put that back on? Or was he just going to have to have a window to his ribs forever?
Anya- Anya said, "We can't do this all night. She keeps respawning."
They are left apparently alone with yet another broken window. The sickly warm wind blows in through.
Breg- Breg nods, and, still panting, hands Rob his ax.
Marcos- Marcos offers, "The heart or the head - is that not how you killed the first? I ... " He stares at Anya. "I know you from somewhere."
Rob- Rob touched his face and was relieved to find the scratches of glass mostly under his hair. He grabbed the axe and nodded. "Do you have anything else sharp? I can't do it alone, I'm not Molly."
Anya- Anya ignores Marcos and asks, "You want me to get Molly? I can't imagine she'll do much more than burst my eardrums."
Breg- Breg nods. "And something to burn her with. It worked the first time, but maybe that was just a fluke...I'll go to get some knives from the kitchen... It's all we have." "..Can you hold her off while I go? I'm not much use without my ax.."
Rob- "Of course, we can't let her have loverboy." Rob's mind went disturbingly back to the hotel room. no. Couldn't be.
Marcos- Marcos does this expression again : /
Breg- Breg runs out the door, and they hear his heavy footsteps as he moves down the stairs to the first floor. The seconds felt like minuutes, and the minutes felt like hours.
Rob- "Looks like a trip to IKEA.." Rob tried to fill the space.
Marcos- Marcos mutters, "Why do you call me this? Loverboy? *Sigh*"
Monster- A voice called out in the darkness of the room, from where they couldn't tell. "...Emil...Emil...Come back...Don't go. Love you. Please, no, so hungry SO HUNGRY we must eat, but we are so hungry and in love...." Her voice becomes shriller, and then they hear a resounding thud on the ceiling above them. "...Must...feed...so sorry so sorry Marcos..." She makes strange croaking sounds that may remind them of a woman weeping.
Rob- "The monster thinks she's your girlfriend. Her name is Emily?"
Marcos- Marcos snorts "No, that is my middle name."
Rob- "Emily"
Marcos- "Emiliano"
Rob- "How does she know that?"
The croaking becomes a HOWL, and she lets go of the ceiling above them to land right on top of them! She's heavy and her skin has a wet, almost soggy texture, and her scent was rather like rotted flesh with rye and heavy spices.
Marcos- Rob's answer dies on Marcos Emiliano's tongue!
Marcos- Emiliano is spared because she is trying not to harm him. He is, however, kicked under the fallen bed.
Rob and Anya feel the weight of the beast fall on them. She feels disturbingly moist, and cold, like a body that has been in the river a long time before it came up and touched them. They could swear that pieces of her sloughed off onto their bare flesh. She writhed like a snake and struck out at them.
Breg's overly loud, tromping footsteps can be heard on the stairs back up towards the room.
Rob- Rob a cold shiver crawled inside Rob and he tries to elbow the creature off with the weight of the axe.
Breg- At that moment, a knee pushes the door open, and a large someone drops a pile of things on the floor, before holding two of the objects that had been in his arms out and using them. A burst of flaming hairspray ignites the back of the creature's head, and it screams in particular anger and possibly pain.
Anya- Anya shouts at Rob, "I don't know who you are, but I like you."
Breg- "I HAVE THE KNIVES THEY'RE ON THE FLOOR NEXT TO ME!" An assortment of three long kitchen knives lay in a pile next to a fire extinguisher.
Rob- "Cheers." Rob tried to take a slash at the beast while avoiding the flames. While the beast remained distracted, Rob sunk his ax deep in her throat. She wriggled to free herself, trying to pull the weapon from the depths of her cervical vertebrae. He had struck hard, but not quite hard enough. His weapon is now difficult to dislodge.
Anya- Anya mirrored Rob's move, grabbing her own knife and striking like a samurai. Anya completes the job, and severs the head entirely.
Breg- Breg kicks the still squirming body out the window, after drenching it with flaming hairspray. It slides down the roof and onto the ground below, still flaming. There is a resounding crunch.
The head rolls on the ground.
Breg- Breg bastes the head in flames, and additionally, burns the carpet in a beautiful semicircle that their landlord would have loved, had they a landlord.
Rob- "Huzzah! Take that Emily! Great job.. umm?"
Anya- Anya, "Anya. Charmed."
The head curls and then seems to disappear, leaving only the blackened area beneath.
Marcos- "It's Emil, not Emily." He peeks out from under the bed. "Is it ... really over?"
Breg- Breg sighs, and looks at the can of Molly's hairspray. It's empty. Molly will be very, very angry, he could feel.
Rob- "I think so. The pleasure is all mine, Anya. I'm Robert." He really hoped it hadn't just disapeared to heal again, he went to check out the body bellow from the window.
The body is gone.
Marcos- Marcos scrambled into the room proper and pushed his way next to Rob and Anya. "Are you from Seattle University?!"
Anya- "Yeah?"
Breg- Breg looks at Robert thoughtfully, and then puts out his hand gingerly. "..Can I have my ax back? I think we should all carry knives, maybe I can make sheathes for them."
Rob- "Sure." He handed the axe and took a knife from the floor with his pipe.
Breg- "Good job everyone. Thank you for helping us. I know this is something beyond the call of duty, and more than just protecting yourself for a change. I think...we had her...Are you alright, Marcos?"
Marcos- Emily is trying to make himself look less feeble. He smiles at Anya, and she just rolls them eyes "I cannot believe that it's over!"
Rob- "Dont count your chickens just yet. Your girlfriend is feisty!"
Marcos- "Oh ... please ... no."
Breg- Breg stares at Rob, and then shakes his head. "...Please, don't do that. It's cruel. He's suffered long enough."
Rob- Rob looked bashful. "Sorry, I was out of line."
Breg- "...We have a lot of cleaning up to do. We should keep an eye out, and get some rest if we can...and get the others out of the basement as well...I hope she is gone for good.."
Marcos- "No, Rob, I'm sorry. I cannot thank you enough. You've saved me, but more than that - you've saved countless future victims."
Anya- "Wow, I'm out of commission for two days, and this is what happens."
Robert- "Thank Anya not me. Her and Molly took them out."
Breg- Breg nods thoughtfully. "...Saving countless lives. I'm proud of everyone here. You helped, Robert. Don't discount yourselves.."
Marcos- Emily: "Thank you, Anya <3 <3"
They don't get any more nightly visitors, but they do have a lot of cleaning up to do. Another window is broken, and needs repair, and whatever wards worked on the other windows, didn't work for this one. They should probably take the time to think about what they did right in this encounter, rather than what went wrong.
In either case, Breg would help pull the bed out of the wall, and give it some semblance of sanity. He tied a towel around his chest, but there's a lose flap of skin that's just been degloved and is now dangling. He fixes the room, and then goes downstairs to get the others, and to seek medical attention from Sister Blaze, who spends some time picking glass out of the lot of them, and sewing Breg's skin back on after washing out the wound and grumbling.
Rob- Rob would help with the reassembling of normalcy and help get Breg check out before getting his own boo-boos sorted.
Molly- Molly would return, after missing all the action, and promptly start lamenting because her friends are hurt. She does not know that her hairspray is gone.
