tab Ben walked over to where the flashlight had been dropped, and picked it up from the floor. Then he aimed the beam of light at Dr. Victor, and walked over to the man. tab "What's the problem?" he asked, looking around at the others and at the doctor. "Are we going to have to carry him in a wheelbarrow?"

The doctor was in bad shape. Alex kept his distance, but he did offer, "I can help carry him, if it comes to that, but maybe one of you should, uh, hit Doctor Victor first? I mean slap him gently. That snapped me out of my trance." Whatever they decided, they had to work fast, before something dropped from the ceiling or uncoiled from a dark corner.

Patti waved at Micah. "Give the doctor some room, take that torch somewhere else." She knelt down by the doctor, waiting for people to make more room, so he hopefully felt less immediately threatened. "Hey, doc. Come on. You're okay. Nobody's hurt. We're going to be okay. If we can get away from these ghosts. The tunnel seems to be our best option now, but with the power out, we need the torches to get around down there. We'll be sitting ducks without them. We've only got the one flashlight and that's just not gonna cut it." She paused to see if her words were helping at all. Maybe she misread the situation. She placed one hand on his shoulder. "Doc?"

"Mother..." Dr. Victor started to convulse a little, his shoulders trembling as if he was hit by an arctic wave. The good doctor sniffled. He wiped his face from the sweat and allowed his breathing to steady, greatly calmed by Patti's words and gentle touch. After a few more precious moments of deep, controlled breathing and adjustment, the doctor looked up at Patti and nodded, acknowledging her presence. "... it happened again... and for that I'm sorry, but... I'd rather sit in the dark than go near that..." Just as his eyes drifted towards the torch carried by Micah, he winced and glanced at the comforting cold, floor. "I... I guess I can bring up the front then? Yes. I can lead the way with the flashlight... Where's the flashlight? Ben. Benjamin, good boy, can I have it back, please? And don't shine that thing directly into my eyes; you want me to go blind and useless? Come on, then... right. I'll lead the way with Mr. James' Brother... er Eric was it? And then the rest of you maniacs can take to the rear. I will not be suffocated by those devilish dancers sucking away all the oxygen should this whole tunnel collapse. Suffocation is hardly a decent way to go. After all, it takes almost five minutes to die that way, you know." By the end of the doctors soliloquy, his arrogant tone and callous attitude blossomed anew... albeit until he caught sight of those abhorrent glowing infernos of death. "Right, I'll just keep a watchful eye on the terrain beneath us and trust Eric to shoot anything up ahead. Come on, Patti, no time to dally. Micah... er... right, then." Dr. Victor moved at a decent pace, certainly not fleeing, but desperate to get moving again. And it wasn't as if he was trying to avoid explaining anything to anyone. After all, there was impending undeath all around; there simply was no time for talking.

Alex assumed that the doctor meant "torches" when he said "devilish dancers." So, he had firephobia? At least the man pulled himself together before anybody had to grab a wheelbarrow or resort to slapping. Thank God Patti had been there. Alex scanned the crowd once more. His eyes settled on the oldest member of their group, a rather scruffy-looking man armed with dull scissors. The poor guy looked so ... out of place. He moved closer to the man and friendfully said, "Grandfather, if you need anything while we're traveling, just ask me. My name's Alex." He decided to keep an eye out for the man during their journey through the tunnel.
Old man - "Oh yes, I don't know how we got in this basement. I was going to do something but I forgot what..."

Micah backed off, his people helping skills as usual, completely fucking lacking. The others seemed to sense this, not even giving him a chance to help. Fuck it, he told himself. So the pompous doctor had some kind of fire mania? Micah moved to where the dark-haired chick from before was standing. As the mother lady took charge, bringing the doctor back to sanity. "Hi, Micah. What do they call you? That was pretty close before huh? Uh sorry I couldn't uh help." Anna - "Hm, yeah. Anna."
She seemed pretty preoccupied.

After relinquishing the flashlight to its rightful owner, Ben found his place next to the Daiso girls again. "Well, he seems all right now, at least for the moment," he commented. "I guess he really doesn't like fire." Sonya- "Yeah, poor man... I hope he isn't too scared."

The group navigated through the alien territory, the lights and fires creating strange hard edged phantoms that waxed and waned, spilling on to the ceiling and crawling into the distance. It took a bit of wandering around blank white pillars and dangerously haphazard cords on the floor, but they found the wall, and crept along it. Every creak of the floor and unidentified noise felt like death coming out of the shadows, but nothing seemed to spring out. It would almost be a relief if it did, the tension was so high. Those with guns had to be extra cautious not to fire at someone tripping over a wire or an especially eerie shadow. Ben himself nearly tripped, noticing some small steps that led down. The group descended the steps to nowhere, and nearly missed the door, which was covered with brown butcher paper to disguise it from the outside. A dim light shone from beneath it. Eric took the lead, and pushed the door open, his gun at the ready. Nothing. Cautiously, everyone moved on to the hard tile floors and into the brightly lit mezzanine.
