At the furthest west end, East Cherry is just another overly skinny, overgrown residential road in Madrona. As it gets closer to civilization and Martin Luther King, it becomes a rather poor neighborhood, with a few Ethiopian markets and restaurants, and a small YWCA. Beyond that, it's back into large old houses once priced far beyond any reasonable estimation of their worth, then the fortress like James Tower (http://commercial.sabey.com/james_tower). By the time it reaches 13th street, it starts to look semi-urban.
There are no complete blockages to cars on this stretch of East Cherry itself, though some surmountable obstacles pop up here and there on the journey.

Takuji came onto Cherry on a bicycle, dodging zombies, but moving slow enough for Baldur to catch up on foot. He did, proving fairly athletic and apparently well-nourished. He sprinted over the grass, mostly ignored by zombies distracted by the bike, and then paused four blocks later to gesture left. Takuji followed him around the corner, quickly ditching the bike and hiding in the bushes with Baldur. Baldur- "Good moves for a guy on death's door."
Takuji- "Haha, it's not that bad, I think."
He did feel quite weakened just doing the simple bike riding, but not on death's door... right? Baldur- "OK. Let them get lost for a few minutes before we move. That house across the street had a lot of canned food. There was this over-sized can of pears. If I'd eaten it all myself, I would have gotten the shits. But shared..." They waited. The zombies wandered, hoping to find the exciting bicyclist, then forgetting what it was that drew them in the first place. After they'd lost focus a bit more, they made the move.
They sprinted across the street, only being spotted by one zombie on the way. Baldur did a shockingly good high jump onto the side fence and disappeared into the back yard. He opened that door from the inside, letting Takuji in, then locking the zombies out.
They went a bit further into the back yard, ignoring the zombie beating on that door, and rested on a trampoline.

Takuji- "I would never think I'd eat this much fruit, haha." He wiped the sweat from his face with a clean kerchief from his pocket and took the chance to vigorously wipe his hands as well. Baldur- "We'll see if it's still in there. When I leave something at a house, I try to remember what it was, and what the monster situation in the neighborhood was like. Some places I won't go back to because of ghosts."
Takuji- "Yeah? I find a lot of weird monsters here. And some bikers."
Baldur- "I heard the singer from Judas Priest lives in America because he loves the motorcycling... Well, I remember this street had a few zombies and the house had no ghosts, so we'll probably be fine."
Takuji- "Cool, yeah. Let's do it."

They went into this blue house: goo.gl/maps/eFfQI , walking up onto the deck, weapons ready. Baldur used a simple stick. He approached the windows and looked in, then pulled out a flashlight. The house looked well-lit by windows, but Takuji understood the need for extra light. Baldur- "Looks OK."

Baldur relaxed a bit too easily, Takuji thought. He saw the man's shoulders drop. He opened the back door. Though closed, it looked like the lock had been broken, and he seemed to have expected that. He turned the light on and went in. Takuji followed him with the cleaver. The man seemed pretty sheisty, and then there was that smell... He kept his personal space bubble quite large.
Baldur- "Cool."
Takuji- "..." It was another house. So many houses... It was weird how many of them looked like they had been uninhabited before the apocalypse. From the outside, they had a few features of habitation, like garden pieces. Inside, they were cleared out to the walls, ready for sale, bereft of anything useful to the living.
This one had been lived in, and probably died in as well. Whatever the cause of the smell, Baldur seemed to think nothing of it.
Takuji wondered if dude's nose was broken, or just burnt out from being followed around by stank all the time. He used the excuse of the fetid house to pull his shirt over his nose.
They went through a little laundry room and into a dark hallway. Baldur- "Pay no mind to the room of sorrow. I don't know who left those bones in there." Moving by it, they came to the kitchen. It had one window, which was small and not facing the sun at the moment. Baldur led him to a pantry door and opened it. Several random cans sat on the floor, unopened. One was the large can of pears, as advertised. Could the Icelander be totally legit? Takuji- "We take from here and go outside?"
Baldur- "Yeah... Yeah, I didn't think about it, but that makes sense. Of course, it's miserable in here. Help me..." They picked up all the cans they thought they could make use of and walked outside. It was a noisy operation, and Takuji couldn't believe they got outside without ghosts in their grits.
Back on the porch, Baldur smiled and opened up the pears. Takuji had a fork from the kitchen ready to go. Takuji- "Cool. Hey so do you ever see those bikers around here? I think they were clearing out a lot of places."
Baldur- "Bikers... Like motorcycles? You mean raiders from Broadway?"
Takuji- "One of them had a motorcyle, I heard them say something that made me think they lived around here though."

The stinky guy considered it. Baldur- "I haven't heard of bikers moving in around here, but things change fast. You think they're up to no good?"
Takuji- "..."

The night was hot, and the streets were filled with the stench of the dead. The air seemed to tremor as a lone figure roamed near aimlessly through the streets, too quickly for a zombie, but what else could it be? A human? A possessed? It peered deeply into every car, running its long nails idly against the sides of building, rummaging through garbage, and then pausing to scent the air like a dog.

By now Takuji was elsewhere in the residences of Madrona. But stinky Baldur happened to be sleeping in a hippy van less than half a block off Cherry!
