I feel like I read it somewhere before, but can't imagine how.
These days I'm trying to think about universal things underlying narrow things and vice versa and so on, but my thoughts want to stay shallow. It's making my writing harder. Being anti-intellectual is the path of least resistance and gets the social stamp of approval in our culture...
Well, good job being thinky.

Mark Doty was a big name in my old uni's arts program (as in, people liked talking about him b/c he taught at a "sister" institution, and then was later a guest prof at ours), so we read Oncoming Train during my obligatory poetry course. It made me majorly gloomy, because it enforced some of my persistent but unwanted thoughts - that was around the time I switched from English to Oceanography. It takes all of my effort to restrict my focus to shallow subjects (well, not universally, but when certain topics are concerned). When I read pieces that resonate with my melancholy side, they throw a wrench in my plans to be sorta happy now and again. <-- EDIT: I don't know what I was trying to say here. It's the product of a weird mood and should be stricken from the record. Memories! O memories. That said, I'd love to read a poem about DnD <-- EDIT: However, this still stands.

I don't know if I've ever seen you bust a strikethru like that, DeeK. SHIT JUST GOT REEEEAL, dawg! I second the D&etc. poem request, though with the caveat I would prefer it to not be depressing. Nonetheless, depress if you must. Just stating a preference.
I would like to state here for the record that I like goblins.

Didn't I already share a link to this with a trailer? It looks like it's got potential, but it could also be embarassingly offensive.

Okay, I'm pondering ideas for a D&D poem. I was looking for slant rhymes for THAC0 and then realized a perfect rhyme with whack-o might be more appropriate. I'll see if I can make a final product tomorrow, tonight I just think thoughts and such.

What's a slant rhyme? Also, I always used to call that stat "thwack0."

Half-rhyme, near-rhyme, imperfect rhyme, whatever, I think what it is called depends on your background in English/poetry education. Gorgeous/purchase/remorseless Drain/estrange/ingrained And so on.

@brett- I did something fantasy RP-related in my story. Go there & Ctrl-F "dungyeon," also thx for the knowledge. It apparently reigns supreme. Kristi is prescribed skeletons- Did you stop mid-sentence on the story here and not update your wordpress at all? You alright there?

This week, I finished editing a horror short story (4800 words) and am going to do the whole "send to magazine, repeat until success" thing. It might be fun to post updates here, but the whole process usually takes foreverrr. Ohmygosh. Remember this post from July? So, since then, the story in question has been shortened to 3900 words and sent to five places. And I just got a notice TODAY from latest magazine that it has "entered round two of the selection process. If you are agreeable, your story will be sent to one of our story editors and then back to you. This is not a promise of publication ..." NOT A REJECTION! Yet.

I know it will involve revealing your secret identity, but (if I don't jinx it) if this story gets published you're gonna have to share with is so we can all enjoy it. I have a friend who is a senior editor at a "small press publisher of science fiction, fantasy, horror and non-fiction books." She gets to go to all of the conventions and has even been on a few panels as well as being a facilitator at some of them. She gets to do fun things like fact checking whether a human brain has sufficient volume to "blanket" a wall (it doesn't, unless it's in a dog house).

@brett - Sure thing! I'll PM more info to mah forum buddies if that happens.
Actually, a few days ago, my boss said that she and I need to "rebrand" ourselves as optimists because apparently we're too gloomy. So I'm going to change the first sentence to "WHEN that happens." Turning over a new leaf! Sparkle sparkle. Life is good and such.
