We are considering starting a section of the board for people to show off their creative writing chops. The tentative concept: We give an assignment and see what people turn in.
Particularly, we'd like to see more stories featuring queer or otherwise underprivileged characters as protagonists, in situations that don't hinge on their outsider status. And supernatural horror stories, because there just isn't enough of that in the world.
Any ideas and anyone interested...?

I should find excuses to practice my creative writing, but I don't think I would be good at producing the kind of writing you're looking for. Most, if not all, of my recreational writing to date has been in the fantasy genre. Unfortunately, I've also lost all of it.

Lost all of it? That's awful. Well, 'tis OK if you are uninterested. I was really aiming this at the KF fans, because they are into something that is not well-represented in media. Let's see if we get any more comments...

This is a good idea. I read lots (LOTS) of English-language short horror fiction and have been disappointed by the genre's overall lack of diversity and meh-to-awful characterization of characters who aren't cisgender heterosexual middle class to wealthy white men. There are obviously exceptions but not enough.
Anyway, even if just a few people post their writings here, it would be soooo cool.

Hahaha... You know you wanna! But srsly, you're the hardest working algaficionado in show business, so I won't push. But *pushpush* ...
Edit- ALSO, even though no one has bitten yet, I may as well start getting more specific. Anyone posting something here can re-post their own story anywhere else, or ask us to take it down, or edit it, etc. We aren't trying to finagle control over anyone's anything. We'd just like to see more writing of this kind, if anyone is willing to share.
We could have a section where people just link to their writing elsewhere, too. I dunno. Whatchu think?

LET'S BOOGALOO!!
I'm super rad at spinning off from ideas and at plotting. Ready to get on into it!
Q: Hey, maybe those of us that want to can list favorite character types, locations, sub genres, monsters, villains, devices, plots, and whatever else we can think of that we find to be fascinating. Then perhaps some inspiration may be born from the hodgepodge? :-D I'm particularly interested in hearing some ideas for villains since my stories have rarely put much spotlight on antagonists.
Q: Are we also using this space to share/discuss stories we've written before this expo began?

Hahaha I might give it a go. ;D Too bad Kilnarak is MIA. She showed me some really sweet (in a cool way, not a sugary way) atmospheric stuff once.

This space is for discussing how people would like this sub-board to be arranged. So far, some ideas are:
People invent new threads for stories that may come up in installments.
A thread to link to stories elsewhere on the internet.
A Writer's Profile thread, to say something about yourself and link to your stuff here and elsewhere.
A Discuss the Stories thread, where people can comment on stories written here without interrupting the stories themselves.
Um... What else?

I'm actually sort of new to this forum in general.. I don't know if I am allowed to do this, but here is a link to a story I recently edited a few hours ago. It's not finished, mind you. I still have LOTS to put into it. But I would love it if I got some feedback and friendly criticism! (And possibly ideas for chapters? c: ) Special thanks to Kelly himself for giving me a wee bit'o'courage to post this here. <3 Love you both! - Nevermore www.wattpad.com/story/1276455-roseP.S. If I cant post this here, just lemme know. Like I said, i'm new here! Also, my work is only of beginners quality, so please help me! ;-; <3

Man, we put together the time to figure out a good way to do merch yet, but people keep mentioning that. Someone actually made Kelly a Claude plushie as a gift. It is all manner of awesome.

Thanks for the profile! You don't have to pick one of our avatars if you have one you'd prefer. You can do that when you like. Now that you have a login for horrorboys, you can create a new thread on horrorboys.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=stories and start writing a story there, if you like. No pressure, though. You can keep your writing at Wattpad and just come here to chat as well. See you around, nevermore!

OK,At this point, I would like to say that we'd prefer not to host fan fiction here. We might be amenable to it with a special provision, like having a separate sub-board for it or clear labeling what it references, and so on. That said, go ahead and link to your fanfic elsewhere in your profile. But generally, we'd prefer the focus be on original works. To get specific, we'd like to see what we were discussing at the top of this page. We might branch out as time goes on, if this forum takes off, but -for now- we'd like to see stuff thematic with the following: Horror genre fiction with a lead character that is in some way not what you'd see as the lead character in mainstream media. There's a lot of possibilities. A character with a disability, a trans*gender or gay character, a hispanic or black or indian character, or so on. The aim is for something like The Kingfisher in this respect: The main character is from an underprivileged group (Jack is gay), but that doesn't define him in itself, and it doesn't dominate the story as a subject. Also, the story isn't fetishizing his gayness for a non-gay person's fantasies, unlike most "yaoi" comics, which are written by girls for girls. Similarly a story about a black character would both avoid shticky blaxploitation tropes or reinforcing stereotypes, and would not be written for people with a prurient interest in black people. If you have a story like that presently, you can link to it in your writer profile, or copy-pasta into horrorboys.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=stories in a new thread that is named: YOUR NAME - STORY TITLE. If you want to start a new story, same format, and you can post it in chunks as you go, and feel free to go back and edit it as you like. (Though for people following it, it might be a good idea to leave a note saying what you edited.) Any ideas or thoughts on that?
