Richie followed and the patio was empty again.

Patti came out, glad to see the patio was uninhabited. She had a tall glass of water in her hand, which she sipped from to soothe her throat.
She looked down at the street. ((GM edit - The patio faces Westlake - no alley view.)) Man, this place was fucked. She knew it was irrational, just based on trauma, but she felt a whole lot safer in the new building.
She sat in one of the chairs and kicked her feet up on one of the tiny tables. She sipped idly and listened to the instru-metal filter through the closed glass door.
She let out a long sigh and strained her ears to hear outside sounds. Nothin' doin'. She decided to rest for a few and finish her water before rejoining the party.

"Slow down, hoss. Yes, I read sheet music, I had to learn for choir. Mostly I played guitar and occasional mandolin, though I hadn't done either since well before you were born until last night. I can play trumpet at about the high school level and I can figure out most plucked string instruments enough to not embarrass myself." "Besides dancing, have you done any other performing? Instruments? Singing? Acting?"

Alex looked over his shoulder, all paranoid-like. Nobody there. They were alone."It's my dark secret, Patti. Back in, ummm, third grade, I was a thespian. See, Mom leads ... led ... a theatre troupe. Nothing big, kinda for housewives, but still cool. She MADE me audition for a Shakespeare play one summer, since I, uh, I was kicked out of bible camp. ANYWAY, moving on ... guess who to-tall-lee stole the show? Me. It was me. But I'm not going to tell you my role, 'cause it's embarrassing. Patti, my friends caught me dancing around in green tights! They were so meaaan." He flopped onto the ground dramatically, then sat cross-legged next to her chair."Haha. I remember all the lines, though. How now, spirit! Whither wander you? Sooo. Serious question. How did you know? Are you psychic? My grandma once said that women are extra spiritually sensitive, and I'm starting to wonder ..."

"Ah, kids are jerks. There's no shame in playing Puck. You were just cultured ahead of your time." "A person doesn't need to be psychic to realize that you're a bit of a drama q- kid. I would have been surprised if you hadn't been in any sort of theater before."

Alex cringed when Patti guessed he-who-must-not-be-named."Shh. It was one play ten years ago. That's all!" If anybody at 403 started calling him he-who-must-not-be-named, Alex was packing his bags, cutting his losses, and joining Jalil's merry band."Um, so, I belong to a paranormal investigation secret society compassionate magics coven with Nat. We need fresh blood. More members! Definitely. Mmm, how about it? Join us! It's fun! I'll even make you a custom ID bracelet! The ID doesn't have to be pink. But it can be pink. Just sayin. Mine's yellow. Uh huh. Our next mission will be in Capitol Hill. Nat can't go ... Richie's considering it. What do you say?"

"Magic interests me. I'll join your super secret society that I'm sure you haven't told, like, a dozen or more people about. And pink's good." "Capitol Hill's gonna be extremely dangerous. I think you're going to need more than just me on that mission. What's the goal up there?"

"EXCELLENT, Agent Patti! The rough plan is ... assemble a group of four or five, go southeast to Seattle University, Bellarmine Hall. Along the way, visit St. James Cathedral and the weird-assssuh weird as gosh pagan shop on East Pike. Collect any and all promising artifacts. Look for Emiliano. It's a bit less than four miles round trip, though I figure some routes are better than others, and we should plan to go the safest course, based on what little we know. The next couple meetings of our secret society oughtta be spent plotting. I don't intend to jump the gun. There's plenty of time to think about our tactics, in other words."

"Sounds interesting. You should talk to the El Corazon kids, I think they'll know the area better, which ways will be safest and all that jazz." "Just an idea, see if you can get Nat to agree to teach us all just a little something something magical. If people feel like they're learning something practical, something they can use against the dead, it should increase people's investment in the mission."

"Those are both great ideas. Hm. I'll bother Nat in the morning, when he's groggy. Haha. Nowadays, he's way too comfortable around me - Bud can say no. That scamp has nerve! Making contact with El Corazon will be fun. I love those guys! Kit Kat, King Kyle, and Brian who doesn't dance ballet. Which is a shame, by the way. If he did, his nick name would be Brian Bolle, like the mucho famous dancer. It'd be SO perfect. Alliteration! Damn. Heeey. Patti. Can my nickname be hoss forever?"

Patti chose to ignore Alex's request, because she knew she'd end up calling him 'kid' or 'son' or 'high-speed' or 'boss' or 'chief' or just about anything else that randomly occurred to her. Lord only knows what he'd think if she didn't address him by his agreed upon nickname. She changed the subject."What's say we head back inside and make some Tang? It's not entirely potable but it's got vitamin C, right?" She got up with her empty glass and gestured for the door."After you, young sir."

"Why, thank you, mah lady!" He exited the patio with enthusiasm, whilst chanting:"Tang wine! Tang wine! I'm gonna put tang in my wine! That's why I call it tang wine! Oh. Do I hear an angel singing? This party's kicking ..."
