Ashley was battered but seemed to be in a decent mood coming back. He was limping a little but seemed to be feeling accomplished about their previous mission. Mysteries were solved and order was restored, today was a good day. He went to go update Patti on the mission and goings on so that she wasn't confused.

Patti had actually been at the meeting, but she jetted off right at the end, perhaps to get a drink or something... The debrief had been rather cursory, and it would be fun to tell her all the details that had been left out. Where was she...?

Ben- "Well, it was nice to see that there were some reasonable people there ready to take charge. But I still don't get why those cops attacked. It's a mystery! Maybe they too were on drugs? They didn't seem able to form a coherent sentence to save their lives. Literally save their lives, in case we'd decided to actually kill them."

Stevie- "It's, eh... insularity. That's the word. People get to where they can only communicate with tha people they hang out with. The less people that is, the weirder they get. Those guys gotta learn to act like humans again." The sun filled the Comm Center. A few people came and went, waving and good mood-ish, as hangovers faded.

Ben was impressed with Stevie's insight into human nature. You live and learn! Ben- "Oh. I guess that could explain it. Well, at least we shouldn't have any trouble moving the zombie extermination south of Denny now. I'd really like to clear a path to the Columbia Tower. Not necessarily all the way, but close enough to send an expedition there and check it out."

Stevie put his feet up. Stevie- "I don't think we should feel obligated to clear out that much real estate. There's probably a lot of enclaves between here and there, doing their own kind of thing. For long range missions, Anna usually just gets some fast guys with bikes... At least, we should probably send someone like that to scout before we commit to anything big...
But man, clearin' out that much of a main drag, we could get all kinds of trade goin' on with other enclaves. That would be tight. Maybe I could get a cool hat from the Stetson shop downtown. What would you want from downtown? You said you left your ride under the mall. How'd ya like to have that back?"

Ben shrugged. Ben- "Can't really drive it anywhere, can I? That's another reason to slowly work southwards: We could clear a corridor. A corridor of cars, for cars! Though in order to really use it we'd have to create an opening through Denny. And it's not as if I'm planning to clear entire neighbourhoods. Just enough to make travel easier."

Stevie considered it. Stevie- "Hm... How long would it really take to untangle that mess? OK, as it stands, those cars are stuck together like bricks in tha Great Wall. But if ya just started where ya could get at it... Get in an outside car, put it in neutral, and parallel unpark its ass from the mess. Cram 'em against buildings on tha sidewalk until we got a lane free... Maybe it's time to open up Denny! Whaddya think?"

Ben- "Yeah, that's what I'm thinking! We just need to get across those lanes in a place where there's an open street on the other side. Then we could build some kind of wall with a gate to keep zombies out when no one is driving through."

Stevie had a funny look on his face, put his arms down, then relaxed again. Stevie- "Felt like jumping up and givin' the speech from Braveheart for a moment. Then I remembered. I like sitting."

Ben can drop pop culture references too? Ben- "I want to break free! But yeah, might as well save the speech for when we have to convince the others of the excellence of this plan." Ben munched contentedly on his goose sandwich. As long as animals kept coming to the city they might be able to stay... But then he remembered... Ben- "Winter is coming. That might become a problem."

((Our time skips have only totaled a few months, so the hottest part of summer hasn't quite hit yet. I intentionally don't want to pin down an exact date, but I think it's late June / early July-ish)) Stevie- "I don't think it would take that long, but ya never know til ya try. Anyhow, that does make me wonder what the winter's gonna be like with no heating. Seattle's good and mild, so probably fine - if ya don't get stuck outdoors. I wonder if Humbert is gonna come scratchin' somewhere, haha."

Ben- "Yeah, I was thinking long term. Heating and food and stuff. If we can't get trade or production going by winter... If we don't have a way out of the city... I guess we can still rely on gas from all the cars this winter, but doesn't gas go bad after a few months? Not sure if that just affects car engines or if the gas actually becomes impossible to burn for fuel. Once we begin chopping down trees it'll be like Easter Island. But I guess that'll take some time." With no demons around, Ben had to conjure up his own nightmares. What was the world coming to?

Stevie- "Food is tricky without a steady source or global trade to bring it to ya, but I've been really impressed what Chantelle can make outta bullshit. We might just pull that one off.
I didn't know that about gas. I could imagine that... Not a big deal unless we're tryin' ta haul a buncha stuff long distance or quick. Fuel for fire, on the other hand... If we can figure out how to slow the speed of paper burning, we'd have a helluva supply without even gettin' into trees.
We could even burn some of that stupid green stuff from down in the banks. Ha!"
