Ben- "If they're coming out one at a time, then sure, just kill them one at a time. No point in luring them out much further if they're not going to create a chain reaction of zombie attention, going way back inside and flushing a lot of them out." Though that was clearly the scenario that Ben would've preferred. Man, cleaning the 403 out after this would be hell. Could they even stay in the building after this? Anna- "I wanted to clear the building faster, save the most people possible. One at a time doesn't cut it."
"And yeah, getting help might be a good idea. No telling how bad things are on the other floors. But since I'm not going to limp all the way down there, that would mean that one of you would have to go alone, or I would be left alone here. With all the ghosts around tonight, that seems like a bad idea. So maybe we should just wait until we know for sure that we can't handle it alone?" Ben figured that by now anyone who hadn't already gotten to safety was probably beyond rescuing, or would be by the time Jalil could get here. And would Jalil be up for confronting demons on behalf of another enclave? Killing zombies was mostly a chore, at least under the right circumstances. But going up against demons and ghosts was a totally different thing.

Anna- "Yeah, could waste valuable time. Let's go in, and retreat outside if it looks hot, then go back in again. Or I just go in and lure out a bunch for you guys to fight, repeat, yadda yadda."
Stevie- "You're right. Uh, unless there's ghosts..." Anna made an exasperated gesture and ran inside, only to come back out immediately. She was followed by three zombies, then two more, then three more. Stevie- "Wow. That's service."

Ben- "Too bad they're not forming a cohesive line." Ben did his best to assist. As long as he only had to face one zombie at a time he could manage, even with his ankle, since he didn't have to dance away all the time. The flare-on-a-stick had to be leaned against the wall though, because hitting a zombie hard enough with a bokken still required both hands.

As they fought, their morale seemed as good as it could be given the circumstances. It was as if they could forget the others in peril because the challenge before them was so half-assed. But the sound of a single shotgun blast from somewhere in the building above soured their expressions. Anna- "Just lay DOWN you fuckers!" ((A last semi-dramatic post before our mini time skip?))

Ben- "Oh, crap! Maybe we better get moving...?" Ben motioned with his head towards the inside of the lobby, hoping that Stevie would take point. The new sounds of violence and terror from upstairs convinced Ben that there were indeed people who still might need saving. Never doubt Anna. She knew what she was doing. Before going in, Ben grabbed the flare-on-a-stick.

As they ran into the front lobby, Ben and company were amazed to see a bunch of unmoving corpses there - and no zombies. They went a little further in, looking into the lounge and halls, and saw... piles of corpses. No animate zombies. Stevie- "Uh... What?"

Ben- "Huh. Were these moving before?" Ben didn't find it too strange that there would be plenty of unmoving bodies around, what with all the gunshots earlier, and the number of people who knew how to break some heads. But perhaps these guys were faking it? Trying to trick humans into coming close enough to become vulnerable? Did they even have the kind of severe trauma to the head that indicated that they'd been put down for good? Ben stretched his flare-on-a-stick closer to get a better look at the deadies.

No head trauma. It was as if the Zompocalypse randomly stopped working in the middle of the fight. Anna- "Jesus! What do we do with this?"
Stevie- "As fast as possible, stab every head in the joint, and look for-" They heard a voice calling out in confusion, down the utility hall. ((Move about and post freely. Go to 1st FLOOR - THE CLINIC to find Monty in a pile of ex-zombies. We'll just do a few little scenes of recovery than pause for a lil' time skip soon.))

After the three returned to the building, no one left again until Sarah, Anna, and Davin went on a scouting run through the neighborhood. It had a few dozen more zombies on the streets, but was otherwise fairly unperturbed. They discovered Jalil's enclave had not been attacked, and Pan-Pac had, but not by a zombie horde. It was too difficult to find out much more, and they returned before dawn.
