Hello everyone, after some discussions on the main board, I decided to create this separate board for talks about the SUBPAR system and any future role-playing that will take place here. Information so far... The SUBPAR system is a very simple role-playing system Christopher and I have created, which is focused mainly on (gasp srsly) role-playing. The main gist of the game, is simply a post-apocalyptic modern day Earth that has suddenly been over-run with zombies and other undead. What makes this game world different, is that there are not just zombies, but every imaginable type of undead. Ghosts of all kinds (Grudge style, regular sad spooky style, Silent Hill 4 style, poltergeists...) your typical zombies, fast zombies, Evil-Dead style zombies... and some other more obscure and made-up types as well, to keep things interesting and varied. We would like to do some forum based play, with Christopher and I acting as game-masters, and possibly playing characters ourselves. I'll post some more information about the system, but it is general enough that any type of character is possible, including possible magic-users or psychics etc. Keep in mind that this setting is based in our own world, so any supernatural ability would start out as relatively insignificant. (A palm-reader, TV psychic etc.) So, for you, potential player, who wants to play? Post here and drop any ideas you have, any potential character ideas and we can discuss. I'll post more information about archetypes later on, but they are very broad so think about what kind of personality/job etc you are interested in, to start with. Specifically, the setting will be modern day Seattle, and all your characters will start at the Westlake Mall in downtown Seattle around 7:06PM on a Wednesday. (SPECIFIC ENUF? Thanks to Suyoi for the start point idea!)

Oh check out this on google maps: maps.google.com/maps?q=400+pine&hl=en&sll=47.613028,-122.342064&sspn=0.39577,1.056747&t=h&hnear=400+Pine+St,+Seattle,+Washington+98101&z=16 This is our location. If you want to know more about some of the locales, for creating your character, just ask us here. We live nearby so we can tell you more about the area. Some ideas for locals: Starbucks employees, mall security, teenagers going to the movies, people eating at food court, office workers from nearby, students... Some nearby notable locations include a Japanese variety store, a beauty school, an art school (my alma mater ;D), several movie theaters, office buildings, bus tunnel, ritzy shopping, medium-expensive to very expensive apartments, lots of bars, hotels, convention center, monorail, jazz club, donut factory, Pike place, several concert halls/theaters... This is one of two buildings nearby that form the only mall-esque presense in the downtown area, and is in a very urban sky-scrapery place. Lots of different locals and tourists fill this location on a daily basis so nearly any type of person is possible. More information on the Westlake Center: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westlake_CenterAlso, feel free to make up a location, we can help come up with something plausible. :B

(clan)Destined for Failure: Young gay male paralegal/assistant in his mid to late twenties, who comes to meet his on-line crush of seven years, whom he has never seen nor met. "It's Complicated." Trivia buff, high-functioning autistic qualities and a idealist/cheerleader at heart. Kind of see him as a White Wolf Nat/Dem: Dreamer - Conformist. A people-pleaser and has a propensity for rash decisions... not a fan of change but more of a dive-right-in so it hurts less. Still shifting things around a bit in my mind, but I figure this is pretty much my clay blob. Hayden Lords 29 year old Caucasian male Professional Administrative Assistant to Finklestein, Levine, Giddeon, Tennenbaum and Associates Law Firm.

Whoa that's uncanny Christopher, good memory! @_@ Great character description, Suyoi! This guy seems interesting, how will he fare against zombie hordes and possible online crush embarassments or splendor??? I'm thinking, maybe we can give everyone a couple days to sign up, and then just start even if it's just the three of us. People can join in at any time, and we can give them their own 'origin' thread, and then toss them into the current action. Just like that, BAM! I'm a role-playing junkie.

I am game for this. No idea about a character, 'though! I will need to think! (Also, hi! I still exist really! I just... got distracted by a certain MMO that came out last weekend. >>; ) Palm-reader psychic sounds amusing, I might try to build on this.

Kiln - ideas ideas! It is both fun and confusing to have the possibilities so wide open. Rock star? Wino? Podiatrist? Aging hippy masseuse? Beastmaster? Basketball player - turned real estate agent and wanna-be rapper? Soccer mom? Fourteen year old stage magician with an ermagerd-style retainer? ANYTHING!

Mmkay, so I'm thinking... Young-ish - late teens to early twenties - guy with some sorta latent mage-y-ness that doesn't really show until after omgzombies! happens. He lives with his elderly aunt, who runs one of those... new-age/occult shops (y'know, the kind where they offer palm- and tarot-readings behind the counter, and sell shiny crystals, incense, and How-To books on different sorts of magic?) Anyway, so this guy (who currently doesn't have a name) works part-time at... maybe at Starbucks, lol, someplace near where this is gonna start up? But who also helps out with his aunt's shop too, so is kind of used to hocus-pocus stuff - he isn't sure if he believes in it, but his aunt is a firm believer and he humors her. Probably also enrolled at whatever the closest community college is, taking GE courses - sort of just dicking around while he figures out wtf he's doing.
Er. Thoughts, opinions?

That would be Seattle Central, which is a nice, cosmopolitan campus. I was there for a whole semester before I moved out of the area. As for me, I haven't thought much yet about a character, but I will probably do something that isn't far from my personal experience, as that will be easier to roleplay naturally in unusual circumstances. But I'm definitely down for seeing how a forum based RPG would work.

So, the idea isn't even remotely fleshed out yet, but he'll be an army vet, working his way through college as a security guard (at the mall). Nothing overtly badass, like special forces or ranger battalion or any of that junk. Just a military police sergeant. Probably no combat experience, since I wouldn't even pretend to know how that experience changes a person.
A lot of empty space there, but that's what I've got so far.

Josh - Hayden sounds cool. What sort of person might he crush on?
Kiln - The way magic will work here isn't that something clicks in the mage's head and they suddenly feel bad-ass. He won't even notice anything has changed until... Guess you'll find out. Until that, it might not even occur to a guy to try anything. The Starbucks in front of this mall is, I guess, the second busiest in North America, so I'm sure most of the staff is part-time. The aunt's shop is in, say... Fremont. A little too far away to easily get to on foot when the world goes bonkers. A good middle point to both those locations where he might be able to afford to live is Queen Anne, but with those jobs it'd still be a studio apartment at best. Then again, many young folks in Seattle share a house with a dozen roommates.
Brett - The subject of combat experience is beginning to bite at my mind in the RP we do at home. The guys in our game just had to eliminate and burn about a thousand zombies that had gotten into their building. How would that affect people? It's probably best for gaming to ignore the reality of stuff like that. Be unrealistic if you feel like it.

To be honest, anyone. I kind of left that part out... since he's a dreamer idealist, it's the simple fact of his own wanting to please someone that led him to become attached to this guy. Their chance meeting was one of his rash decisions; kind of like having an on-line gaming partner or something similar, and never officially meeting. Basically, anyone who would verbally praise him would work; even if its an off chance appraisal. A pat on the head is his fuel to continue onward. Basically, I don't want to know anything about this guy. I can adapt and adjust to the story as needed. Don't need a huge background to make this guy tick. I like to immerse myself into the character and think like they think; it makes more raw reactions and allows a better chance to enjoy the experience. It doesn't have to be seven years; hell, it could only be a few weeks. Attachments are like sparks on kindling. Whether you want it to or not, somethings going to catch fire. I don't like to jump ahead when I read; I don't like to jump ahead when I game. ^_~ I hope that helps.

Haha, just thinking if we were to invent him for you, what a good guideline would be, if any. Well, guess we'll play it by ear. So... so far three players... We'll wait a bit longer and see what happens.

I am interested but I have no experience in role-playing except one time when I was 10. I also have no knowledge of Seattle/America in landscape but maybe that could be worked into the character? I would even be happy for someone to make up a character for me or I can give it some thought .

Since this will have little to no "game mechanics", there's not much you need to know except how to type. As for knowing the Seattle area, that's an easy fix. The convention center isn't too far away, you could always be from out of town, visiting a convention, and realized you forgot to pack your [fill in the blank] at home and you made a quick trip to the mall to get a replacement.
