Abdul waited near Patti, nodding in nonverbal agreement with Ashley's platitudes. Tyrone- "True enuf. Hm. I see your candy and raise you."

To Abdul-Rahman - "Can it wait til the party's winding down? I'm going to have one more drink and then go find the birthday boy. We could talk after that maybe?" After Abdul-Rahman's response, Patti exits towards the refreshment table.

Tyrone- "In and out! She's a real social butterfly."
Abdul- "*sigh* Cut me in gentlemen?"
Tyrone- "OK, but you'll need to bring more candy..."

Ashley looks proudly over his heap of candy, and does his best not to follow the people coming in and out with his eyes. He wondered if there was something going on between Abdul and Patti and decided it was none of his business. There was poker and survival to think about. He placed a few more candies into the pool. He was feeling lucky. To Tyrone- "You seem aware of yourself. A security guard?" He somehow felt that Tyrone was too cool to be a security guard. Or maybe that was just his prejudices working against him again. His tone betrayed him, but he had a good pokerface. Tyrone- "Oh yeah. Shif' Sup at th' mall. Patti saw my lovely uniform. I got t' get some good clothes soon. Maybe go raid downtown. Ooh, I could get a nice Stetson."

Patti found a chair at the periphery of the gambling table. She sat back and observed the players. She wasn't a master gambler or a mentalist or anything, but she had a half-decent bullshit detector and she figured she could learn a thing or two about them just watching. She pulled a PowerCrunch bar out of her pocket and chewed on it idly. The artificially sweet peanut butter flavor was horrendous with the lingering aftertaste of the tonic and lime, but she figured a little protein would help her deal with what little alcohol she had consumed.

Ashley glances at Patti before he makes his next bluff. He wonders if they will call it. He was already a winner and the stakes were higher this time.

Tyrone- "I'm out." Tyrone seems strong when he's strong, but also careful... Hard to say anything. But security guard isn't half the story, of course.
"I'm out." Tonight has seemed like a semi-competent gambler with his confidence thrown in the crapper by bad luck.
"I... fold." Probably a bad gambler.
"I'm calling that bullshit, mang." Probable lesson - Hector can read people well, but is a poor strategist for games - should have driven the stakes higher if he had a strong hand. Hector wins!

Ashley pushes the majority of the betted candy to Hector, and decides that he's either a good gambler or a good reader, before looking over at Tyrone. He himself had just proved he was a bad gambler, a risk-taker, and a decent liar. To Tyrone- "You seem like you've been around." He says thoughtfully. He seems to have wanted to stab out in some attempt at friendship based on his actions but the relative caution of these people amongst only a few did make him careful.

Tyrone- "It's hard not to. Nobody want t' let a man keep his job. I guess that's one less problem I got... So you in fitness? That's got t' be a pretty good line around hurra. ... Damn, talkin' like we still got jobs an' a city. That's a laugh." Gradually, people picked up stakes. Hector went to The Boozy Corner, Kenny to The Dance Floor by way of the Couches in The Corner, and Abdul chased after Whatever Patti Was Up To.
Tyrone vs. Ashley, for all the candy in the world! Wherein the world means the table. Because there's probably more candy somewhere else.

Ashley plays again. He always played risky but bluffed well. "It is. Some people just don't get the philosphy though. They don't see the joy in physical exertion and the feeling of simply being healthy. Why when I was young I never cherished my body like I do now that I'm risking losing it."

Patti had a sudden thought and had to vocalize it. "Does anyone here know how to build and operate a ham radio?"

Tyrone- "I always been lucky wit' fitness - doesn't take much t' get in shape for me, but most of my brothers ain't like that. I'm lazy too - The only reason I'm lookin' as tight as I do is cuz th' old timers in my apartment like tryin' to shoot hoop. Gotta keep those sad old boys on they toes." Abdul sat near Patti watching the game. GM NOTE: I tried to find out about this subject some during our RP of this situation and it's all Greek. Accept my bullshits unless you know any better, but I think erring on the side of "It ain't gonna help" is probably best. Abdul- "Believe it or not, the hand-held radios can receive and broadcast a fairly broad spectrum of frequencies - but the range is obviously limited. Still, we've been able to hear some snippets of communication by cycling through the channels. Nothing sensible or official sounding."

To Abdul - "Hmmm... My dad used to talk with people all over the world on his. But he was a commo guy in the Army and he might have had some fancy equipment that's a little more than we'd be able to manage. And now that I think of it, I bet the range of one of those base units is probably limited by how much electricity you can run into it, which wouldn't be much with just a couple of people on bikes running it." (OOC - That's about as much as I was able to learn with a Google search. The range can actually be ridiculously far, like different continents type range, but requires taller and more well powered antennae.)"I was thinking about heading to bed early so I could get up early enough to work out some. You wanna do that thing now?" She nodded her head towards the hallway.

To Patti- "I don't know a thing. Wish I could help. I have an outgoing radio in my other car but it's no use now." He says simply, and bites his lip before he decides to finish his little game. It was easy playing with Tyrone, and he was more cautious this time. To Tyrone- "It's easy to get into, I haven't played basketball since I was 14." He comments.

Abdul left with Patti, after Ashley's reply about radio. GM NOTE - a PM for Patti initiates her talk with Abdul in the hall.Tyrone- "Jus' you and me, champ. This butterscotch is as good as mine..." He smiled genially.
