Ashley slips out of the game room and to the edges of the dance floor to watch. He noticed an exodus of people going elsewhere, but where? He put on his mental detective hat (He was never a police detective), and watched to see where they were going, all while looking casual. Maybe he should have a drink in the meanwhile.

tab Sonya was right, of course: They should just dance. Because any topic about the past, the present or the future would likely lead Ben to how things had changed, and that wasn't a very pleasant subject. At least he hadn't brought up how most of his friends were likely dead. tab Talking would also be a slight waste of the music brought by the one pedalling the bicycle generator. Ben was relieved that Chantelle had arranged for a substitute, because from her heavy breath it had definitely sounded as if she needed the relief. And while Ben would normally have been happy to help out for a while, he preferred to keep dancing with Sonya. tab As he danced he smiled, and entertained vague fantasies about the future he and Sonya could have together. It felt good being this close to her, and the heat he felt didn't come from the dancing alone.
