Ben finds his one bedroom apartment the way he left it, save for the door being broken down and the tubs and sinks filled with water. (And covered with Saran -- Per Ben's idea!) Jackson offers to sleep on the couch.

Jackson- "Hey nice place man. I really appreciate it. Yeah... I asked Anna but I guess that might be moving kinda fast, heh... You seem pretty tight with that Sonya, that going alright? I guess the ladies want their own spaces, gotta respect that."

tab Jackson was in luck, as Ben had slept on various couches in his days, and had made sure to get one that was longer than most men were tall. In fact, some nights Ben himself had fallen asleep on that couch, no worse for wear the next day. tab In front of the couch there was a big TV and few different gaming systems, plus all the usual stuff that made up a complete home entertainment system. Bookshelves covered the walls, and where those wouldn't fit, there were anime posters. Ben's collection of manga included a lot of untranslated books, and in the boxes on top of the shelves he stored his cherished collection of hentai doujinshi. tab Ben's bedroom was equipped with a large bed, and the walls were decorated with a couple of Japanese calligraphy scrolls and similar artwork, which Ben thought looked rather tasteful. Safely tucked away in a glass case there was also a small legion of anime figures, most of which were cute girls. tab "Yeah. Sonya is really cute. And Sandy too. But I don't really know them. I was just shopping at their store when it all happened. I guess I just thought you and Anna knew each other from before or something." tab Ben looked around, and thought about what life would be like from now on, assuming it would last for a while. tab "So how do we do this then? We're supposed to be rooming together to keep a lookout for ghosts, aren't we? Does that mean that one of us would have to stay awake while the other one sleeps? I saw a lot of two-people groups on that whiteboard, and it just seems a bit inefficient to me that almost half the people would have to stay awake to watch over the other half, as opposed to sleeping in bigger groups where one or two could watch over six or seven people. Or are we supposed to just sleep at the same time and take our chances that one of us will wake up if a ghost turns up?" tab Ben didn't really think that a ghost would appear that night, at least not in his apartment. But one night, in one of the apartments... Unless people were prepared, people were going to die. He wondered if he should make one of those torches on a ten foot pole, just to have one ready? It would probably be a good idea to find some kind of quiet activity to pass the time if they were really supposed to watch over each other. Just not one that was too distracting, in case a ghost actually appeared. Wouldn't do to have one's head buried in a manga if that happened.

Jackson- "Yeah, wow this place is cool... Reminds me of my shop, one of the girls there has those little anime figures like you got. Pretty cute stuff. I've done some tattoos with that kinda drawing, it's tough. I really admire people who can draw like that."
Jackson glanced around, nodding appreciatively."Nah, I just sort of knew Anna. I think I did one of her tats at some point, don't remember when or what it was, and I haven't seen it on her yet, haha." He took a seat on the sofa, and leaned back."Glad we don't have to do any work here, last thing I'd want to do is haul beds up stairs.. I feel guilty for not helping, but I'm secretly an old man and damn my back hurts. Haha...
Yeah I don't really get about the ghost thing. Maybe we'll just hang in the living room tonight then? Maybe you can find me something good to read and I can just kick back and hope I smell whatever that weird smell is in time... Or actually, hope I don't have to! By the way, thanks again. This place like I'm practically back in the normal world."

"Ha, yeah. I didn't think I'd really see this place again. And if Davin hadn't been at the mall to drag us here, I guess I wouldn't have." Ben was both relieved and put at ease by Jackson's apparent appreciation for Ben's cultural choices. That wasn't always the case with people. He started to go through his shelves, suggesting titles and throwing out brief descriptions. "Let me see if I have something for you to read. If you read Japanese I've got shelves of manga, but I've got some old, translated stuff too, and regular books as well. What kind of stuff are you into?"

Jackson- "I like any genre really, I guess comedy sounds good. Honestly, something with pictures would be nice. I'm a boring mono-linguist though, so maybe one of those translated Japanese comics, one with... no zombies. Heh."

tab "Well, how about the adventures of a quirky five-year old?" Ben asked, as he handed over the first volume of Yotsuba&! "I guess you could say that it's on the same 'level' as Calvin & Hobbes? I also have Azumanga Daioh, by the same guy. Very funny stuff."

Jackson- "Why not both, I'll take your recommendations! Man, how nice is this? Just get to sit back and read some comics, after that crazy ass day? Man. Now if you had Captain Crunch and cold soy milk in the morning, I'd be your best friend for life. Hahaha." Jackson took his shoes off and sat back in the chair with the books. Ben noticed he even had tattoos on the tops of his feet. Jackson- "Go ahead and sleep without an alarm, I'll wake you up if I can't keep the lids up. Good night man."

"Captain Crunch? I think I might have some of that, unless someone collected it. No soy milk though. Only regular milk for me. And I guess there will be no more of that for a while." Ben looked at Jackson's tattoos and wondered if he should ask about them. Or was that the kind of thing that one should hold off on until one knew a person better? Meh. Whichever it was, Ben figured it could wait until another time. Right now he had some sleep to get. "Good night." tab Ben slept well, possibly because it was in his very own bed, which was infinitely more comfortable than the floor of the 801 apartment. Sometime during the night he was woken up by Jackson, and after a brief visit to the bathroom Ben spent the rest of the night rereading some of his manga books. tab But his heart wasn't in it. If only he had spent his days doing something that could be useful when dealing with ghosts and demons. Hm, didn't he have a few books on that subject? Might as well check those out. Refresh his memory a bit. Maybe there was a slim chance that something could be based on something real? Or the other way around, in case life was imitating art? tab At dawn Ben got himself cleaned and ready for the day. Having access to his own clothes meant that he could throw his dirty clothes into the laundry basket and wear a clean white shirt and a clean pair of black pants. Why change a winning combination, right? Ha ha... He wasn't sure how he'd get his blood-caked shoes clean, but he had other shoes to wear, so he just designated the dirty ones as his 'outside shoes'.

tab After breakfast Ben returned to his apartment to change clothes and get ready for a day of work. He hung up his puffy shirt to let it air out a bit. All that dancing had made him sweat quite a bit, and he wondered how they'd wash their clothes without wasting too much water. Using any kind of detergents seemed like a bad idea considering how much water it would require to rinse the clothes afterwards. Perhaps they should just rely on Febreze for now?

And then he was gone to a day's labors! Back to apartment 501 (5th floor thread)!

tab After spending the first half of the night sleeping, Ben got up to take his guard shift. This night he dressed up in his armour, so that if a ghost appeared and turned someone into a zombie, he would be ready for action. tab Earlier during the day he had made himself a torch on a pole, which could easily be set alight and used on ghosts from a safe distance. He'd also recommended that others make some long torches of their own, and perhaps put one in each room. But as common as brooms and mops where, they didn't have an endless supply. Probably wouldn't matter for a while, so he expected them to have some time to find more raw materials before another ghost appeared. tab And would more ghosts appear? Ben hadn't thought so at first, but what if some of the people who used to live in the building had been turned into ghosts somewhere in the city, and were now drawn home by their pets, like Davin had apparently been? Perhaps improbable, since most people seemed to have been turned into zombies. But better safe than sorry. tab And this whole thing with a single guard in each room didn't make a lick of sense to Ben. He hadn't wanted to make a fuss, because they hadn't seen any ghosts until that day. But what if a lone guard gets paralysed by a ghost? Who's going to wake the sleepers then? If ghosts cared about sleeping people, that'd be two or more zombies for the price of one, and a chance to repeat the deed in another room. He should probably bring that up with Seth now that they knew how even being forewarned didn't stop people from getting paralysed and zombiefied. tab At dawn Ben removed his armour and washed up before Jackson woke up. If ghosts move around in broad daylight, shouldn't they always make sure to move in pairs? Damn, that would be a bit restrictive. But safety first, at least until it seemed a reasonable assumption that none of the previous residents would come back to haunt the place? Ben's place would be safe though, unless a previous tenant had some very special connection to the apartment.

Jackson woke with a start, relaxed, then slowly came around. Jackson- "Ben, damn, what a night! I'd like to go a few days without hearing a gunshot, y'know? Is that too much to ask? ...
Anyway, hm. Good morning, my brother. Heard about breakfast yet?" They went about their morning business, then had a day.

Another day, another dealy! Ben had been asleep when Ashley had woken him up, telling him about zombies outside hurriedly before running off to recruit more fighters. Ben had started to put on his armour. Once he was done with that and ready to fight, the fight was long over, with Ben all dressed up and nowhere to go. "Damn. Good thing there weren't hundreds of them." Because that would've been all "thanks, guy, we were running out" (of zombies), he thought to himself. And what would this do to their tentative plans to kill lots and lots of zombies? Would people be more willing now, or less willing? And what tales would the lone survivor be able to tell? Ben was really eager to find out, though that Thierry guy would probably have to translate. Unless of course Sharma could barely speak, or move, in which case it would all have to be told through a third person anyway. Which would probably be Thierry too, since they had seemed to be close at the time when Sharma had left. When Dr. Bebe told the gawkers to move out of the clinic, Ben probably called it a night.
