Patti was in her old apartment, except the walls and furniture were all of the purest white imaginable. Everything had a hazy glow about it, with no real primary source of light. She walked around the living room, circling her sofa and then sitting down in the middle.
Alex was on her right and Ash was on her left, both clad in pristine white linen. She glanced over her shoulder and saw that her living room was filled with the denizens of 403, all similarly dressed. The chatter was incessant but very quiet and no distinct voices or conversations could be made out. She stood up, confused, and turned about to survey the room. In her seat was Hector, appraising her sternly.
Hector -
"Why'd you do it, Pats? Why'd you kill us?"
Patti -
"I didn't. I mean, I didn't mean to. I mean-"
Blood began to spread across his chest and run from his eyes.
Hector -
"Why'd you do it, Pats? Why'd you kill us?"
The blood had completely soaked his shirt and was running in rivulets down the length of his sleeves. It began to spread to Alex and Ash and the couch and the floor.
Patti - gun in hand
"Stop it! I didn't have a choice. It was me or-"
Behind her, the sound of a shotgun being cocked. She spun around, gun at the ready.
Hector's old roommate and brother stood there, clad in white linens, scanning the room with their firearms. She tried to pull the trigger but the gun was like a hundred-pound kettel bell in her hand.
The brothers began to fire into the crowd. Small red dots appeared on the party-goers and began to spread. They all turned to Patti. "Why'd you do it, Pats? Why'd you kill us?"
She lifted the gun and fired at the brothers. Bullets ripped into their tiny bodies as they convulsed with every violent blow. The two shattered, bloody children fell to the ground, arterial spray splashing across the walls. Patti's arms were red to the elbows. An overwhelming heat washed over her body, sapping the life from her. The boys continued to convulse and spray blood all around. A haunting voice spoke behind her.
Woman from REI -
"My boys are great dancers, aren't they?" The woman cocked her head to the side. "Do you know how to dance?"
Patti spun around, first left, then right, desperately trying to find a way out. All of her friends were looking at her, bleeding from their bloody wounds, but also from their eyes.
The two adult brothers kept firing into the group. The blasts tore limbs, and shattered skulls, brain matter and blood decorated the walls. Patti lifted the gun and fired at the brothers. "My boys are great dancers, aren't they?" The woman cocked her head to the side. "Why'd you do it, honey? Why'd you kill my boys?"
The strength was finally sapped from Patti's legs and she fell hard to her knees. Her head lolled on her shoulders listlessly. Nearby, an old man and three small children knelt beside the bullet riddled corpses of the adult brothers.
Luke -
"Why'd you do it, Pats? Why'd you kill their fathers?" The three boys spoke in unison. "Why'd you do it, lady? Why'd you kill our daddies?"
Bullets tore into her body and she shook violently with every blow. The blood that came out was thick and black and ropy. She tried to hold it in with her hands, but it kept coming, like intestines from a morbid piñata, it coiled in piles at her knees.
Woman from REI -
"You do know how to dance. How lovely... Why'd you do it, honey, why'd you kill your brothers?
Black blood burst from Patti's mouth like a fountain. In the steaming coil of bloodtestines at her feet, she could see the faces of her brothers, bloated and grotesque, but eyes open and questioning. "Why'd you do it, Pats? Why'd you kill us?" She squeezed her eyes shut as hard as she could, a crushing pain inside her head. When she opened her eyes, the room was white again.
