Patti arrived twenty minutes early for her guard shift and relieved Anna, wishing her a good rest. She walked to the edge of the building and looked about. Crap. Miles and miles of crap. She never should have left Houston. She looked around, hoping to spy a motorcycle laying on its side somewhere in the open. No such luck, though as bad as the line of sight was with all the tall buildings and the cars choking the streets, she hadn't really expected to see anything. A thought occurred to her. Where do the SPD stable their horses? Probably somewhere stupid, like West Seattle. She wasn't so sure a horse would have the temperament to brave zombie hordes anyway. Would be nice to have a dog with her though. Something relatively large and athletic enough to keep up on its own. Of course, that wouldn't work if she was on a motorcycle. Unless it had a sidecar, but beggars can't be choosers and that would greatly reduce the maneuverability that made them a good choice for the situation anyhow. A tank would be nice. Heh. Not that she'd ever be able to figure out how to drive one of those. Hmmm... maybe a garbage truck. She had driven a tractor a couple of times and knew how to use a manual transmission, so she might be able to figure that out. Of course, she didn't see any garbage trucks either.

Relieving Anna early meant two hours and twenty minutes up there, probably alone. If your friends knew where you were, sometimes they'd come around, but this time of day they'd probably be getting breakfast. Then again, so far, she wasn't that close to anyone. Probably for the best, she (would most likely have) thought.
The day was bitterly cold, thin grey skies, but not raining. In these shifts, it was still possible to see humans down there in the mess, hiding, running, and moving through the zombie jungle. Feral dogs were still trying to make sense of a very confusing new world. Crows, seagulls, pigeons, and rats were all out and trying to find an angle themselves, but seemed much less sad than the dogs. *sigh to the max*

Patti thought she'd like one of those dogs. Maybe all of them. Losing their friends like that and then being thrust into such a hostile and terrifying place without even so much as the expectations one would get from watching a couple of zombie movies. She hoped then that they were all far less intelligent and less emotionally sophisticated than she believed they were. Wouldn't be able to feed them all anyway. She walked around the perimeter some more, just for a change of scenery.

She saw something that boggled her mind. A large hotel poked out from behind the building south of her... Was it just across Denny? Yes. Anyhow,
Naked white woman on a balcony. A man, shorter than her, Asian?, came out as well. Naked people. They hung out, smoking.

tab While walking around aimlessly, Ben decided to visit the roof to see the sights. As he spotted Patti, he approached with a wave. tab "Hey! What's up? Seeing anything out there?"

"Boobs. Y'know, if that sort of thing interests you." She winked, awkwardly. "At the hotel on Denny. Don't let them distract you from guard duty-wait, never mind, you weren't on the schedule yet... Just wandering?"

"Oh, I'm always up for staring at naked ladies," Ben said with a grin. "I wonder if they're alone in there, living it up while supplies last? And is this nudity a 'hey, it's the end of the world'-thing, or is it just something they've always done? And what might they be thinking about people like us patrolling this roof ? Shouldn't this give them some hope that there is still life out here?" Looking down at the streets, Ben went on: "There ought to be lots of people like us out there. Shouldn't someone be able to get a dump truck and start clearing the streets? That'd be the kind of vehicle we could use to get everyone safely out of the city."

"You know, I was just thinking the same thing. I'm still weighing my options for leaving and I was considering what kind of vehicle I could use to get out of Dodge. I thought of a police horse, but I don't know where they stable them. A motorcycle would be agile and small enough to get between the cars. My last thought was a garbage truck because it would be powerful enough to push cars out of its way. As an added bonus, you could pick up passengers if you found them, or maybe a canine companion." She sighed, then looked over the city silently, shaking her head slightly.

tab Ben decided to offer some counterpoints to Patti's choice of vehicles. Because smashing theories is the scientific way, and the scientific way is the best way. tab "Would a garbage truck really be enough, though? I mean, sure, it could push a car or two around, but we're talking pile-ups here, aren't we? A dump truck could just roll right over them, no matter how thickly they're packed. And a motorcycle might be a bit too noisy. It's not as if you'd be able to use it for speed, what with all the obstacles. You'd basically be going as fast as a bicyclist, but attract way more zombies." tab "Don't know much about horses though. Except that they're probably dead from dehydration now if they were locked up for the night with no one alive to take care of them. So hopefully there was someone alive to take care of them, or at least release them." tab Ben didn't like the thought of all the pets who might be locked up without food and water. Perhaps there were caring people roaming around and releasing animals? Or was that just as cruel as letting them die of thirst, considering that a lot of pets had never learned how to fend for themselves?

"I see your point. Sort of. I was using the phrase dump truck and garbage truck interchangeably. When I was a kid, garbage trucks were just dump trucks. But you're right. I doubt there are any heavy vehicles in the city with wheels that would get over cars though." "If we were in Tacoma, we could probably find monster trucks at the Tacoma Dome. The problem with a bicycle is how much weight you can carry with you, and you have to worry more about keeping the load balanced. A tank would be nice." "Oh, hey, there's my relief. I guess it's my turn to go see the doctor. Um, I'm going to try to put together a post-apocalypse fitness program with the help of Ashley and Alex. If you're interested, I'm hoping to get it started in the next day or two." After she was done talking with Ben, she exchanged pleasantries with her relief and notified them of the survivors in the Denny Street hotel. On her way to the clinic, she went looking for Seth. Eventually she found him [wherever].

(Depending on who is relieving Patti, Ben might stay for a brief chat, or even a meaty conversation. But if it's an unspecified person he'll return downstairs in short order.)tab "Oh yeah, I'm definitely interested in that fitness program. See you around!"

Sarah- "Patti, Ben. Just got the business from Dr. Bebe. She's something else." :-) ((We got a lot to do today and not likely to get back at you soon with NPC replies, but you can do the one sided convo that we drop replies into later if you like, or go elsewhere as you wish.))

(I think Ben will stick around as long as Sarah got interesting stuff to tell about Dr. Bebe and other people that Ben hasn't gotten to know. Forewarned is forearmed!)tab "Oh? What's she like then? I only saw her dance at the party..." tab For obvious reasons, Ben hadn't paid that close attention to whatever Dr. Bebe had been up to on the dance floor.

Sarah- "Well, as a doctor, I expected her to ask personal questions. But the way she went about it was a little saucy -- she went right up to the border of offense and had a picnic there. Haha. Who did you sign up for?"

tab "I went to Dr. Victor. 'Better the Devil you know.' And he was quite professional. Don't know how I'd feel about a doctor who wasn't, especially in a close community like the one we have here now. Then again, it's not as if I have any dirty secrets to hide." tab Ben shrugged. Except for all those boxes on the top of the bookcases perhaps? But luckily that wasn't a medical issue.
